Believe it or not, the Geek Markets is leaving its birth place and going regional for a day.
It’s travelling a hundred kilometers or so up the road to Goulburn where stunned locals will probably wonder what the hell’s going on, and why.
For those of you who’ve never heard of Goulburn, it’s the home of the Big Merino (please keep your jokes about farmers and Velcro gloves to yourself – it embarrasses the sheep).
I’ve been there (not as a farmer I hasten to say), though I usually just wave as I drive past. The Merino, unfortunately, can’t been seen from the highway, or at least not while you’re dodging police vehicles determined to fine you for speeding.
That’s the other fun fact about Goulburn. Don’t speed as you go past. Half of the city’s revenue* comes from speeding fines (*Author note: all statistics here are made up on the spot).
Back to the Big Merino. It’s big. And famous. Ish. Check out the picture. It got attacked by a Gorgon a few decades back and now there’s a charitable society raising money to get it de-petrified.
I’ll be in Goulburn on the 16th of March for the Big Marino de-petrifying day… sorry, the Geek Markets. Drop in, say hello, and get a book signed.
If you’re brave enough to risk Gorgons, visit the Big Merino and send me photo of you out front while holding one of my books.
